Czech journalists response to Politkovskaya murder

PRAGUE - On October 9 the Czech Union of Journalists sent the following letter to the Russian ambassador to the Czech Republic in answer to Anna Politkovskaya’s assassination:

Your Excellency,

It was with great sadness that we heard about the assassination of our colleague Anna Politkovskaya whose death was undoubtedly linked to her work. Turning to the use of guns is the worst possible means of resolving disputes and is often used by those unable to verbally explain their actions. And the outcome is always repugnant.

We therefore appeal to you, as an official representative of Russia, to thoroughly investigate this contemptible crime, severely punish the guilty and make public the reason for Anna’s assassination.

Sincerely,

Miroslav Jelínek
Chairman of the Czech Union of Journalists
