Resolution of the General Assembly of the Chechen Information Centre in CracowWe announce that comparing fighting for the independence of Chechnya to the attacks of Arab extremists against the United States is not only deeply immoral, but also contradict to the well known facts and common sense. Led by democratically elected President and Parliament of Chechnya - Chechen forces fights on its territory the occupying Russian forces in order to remove the occupiers from its own country and gain independence.
Russian forces nowadays, in the 21st century behave in Chechnya
according to its ages old custom: on mass scale they pillage and murder civilians, rape women, torture and kill war prisoners and detainees, destroy everything that cannot be taken out.
Arab extremists attack on the territories of foreign countries, mainly the United States. They attack civilians and civilian objects (WTC in New York) and governmental objects (US embassies, Pentagon). The United States were right to declare war both against the terrorists as well as all those helping them. However using searching for Al Qaeda terrorists as an excuse for the activities of 100 thousand Russian military is an obvious aberration.
Every country and every occupied by the enemy nation has its sacred right to fight for its independence, which includes armed conflict. Poland many times fought this way and kept regaining its independence.
Similarly, the United States got its independence as the result of rebellion and fight. It is worth reminding that the United States received help in their fight from the volunteers from Europe, including Poles - Kościuszko and Pułaski. America showed its gratitude sending to Poland in1920 pilots - volunteers against the Red Army. Many of these volunteers were killed and are buried in the Lviv Cementary.
One must not refuse any nation the right to fight for its independence, in particular when one wants to deprive the right based on Art. 1. Human Rights Treaties of the United Nation - the right to self-determination. One must not treat as terrorists a noble and brave nation that under a democratically elected leadership fights on its own territory for the liberation from foreign occupation. Finally one must not forbid other people to support the fight for independence of other nations.
We do hope that these old and simple truths, obvious for every honest person will some day become understandable also for politicians.
