Pro-Russian Chechen Government: Khattab´s presence in Afghanistan misinterpretation

MOSCOW, NOVEMBER 24, 2001. /RIA Novosti correspondent/ -- Arab terrorist Khattab, who operates on Chechen territory, has reportedly surfaced in Afghanistan. However, the government of Chechnya views such media reports as something light-minded. Talking to RIA Novosti, a source inside the Chechen republican government noted that Khattab was merely capable of staging bandit attacks and perpetrating terrorist acts, and that his alleged transfer to Afghanistan amounted to misinformation.

Media bodies claim that Khattab commands Talib defenses in northern Afghanistan at the request of international terrorist Osama bin Laden.

According to RIA Novosti's source, this information is currently being checked by law-enforcement agencies.
