One year has passed since Vladimir Putin was elected the President of the Russian Federation. Putin's uncompromising attitude to Chechnya was one of the decisive factors that secured him victory already in the first election round. An allegation of an election fraud was widely documented by the Moscow Times. Putin was inaugurated on May 5, 2000.

April 1

57th session of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights is held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 19 March to 27 April, 2001 (more...).
