June 16

The first U.S.-Russia summit since the election of George W. Bush takes place in Slovenia. Human Rights Watch urge the American president to make Chechnya a top priority in the summit talks.

June 25 - 29

The third part of the 2001 Ordinary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) takes place in Strasbourg. According to the draft order of business, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Walter Schwimmer, is to report on "One year of presence in the Chechen Republic" on June 28.
