"CLEANSING OPERATION" IN THE TOWN OF MAIRTUP, SEPTEMBER 1-9, 2001

Report by the human rights centre Memorial on the "cleansing operation" in the village of Mairtup between September 1 and September 9, 2001. This is the first case of “zatchistka” known to have followed the declaration issued by the General Prosecutor and the Commander of the North Caucasus Military District that orders to eradicate human rights violations during the “zatchistka” procedures.
