On the 3rd of July they took my 12 years old son. They were saying that a Chechen bandit is growing. The next day I've found him in a hospital. He was beaten up and wasted. He wasn't able to recognize anybody - this and 50 other stories about "cleansing operations" from "bandits" of the Chechen villages conducted by the Russians has been described by Lidia Gragova in her article published by the weekly magazine "Moskovskiye Novosti" on July 31 - August 6.

A report by Memorial workers on cleansing operation carried out in the village of Tsotsin-Yurt on July 25.

Report by human rights centre Memorial on cleansing operation that took place in the village of Stariye Atagi on the 3rd and 4th of August 2001 and was accompanied by robbery and theft. The "cleansing operation" was carried out by military personnel from Tolstoy-Yurt, Khankala and other places.

Report by members of the Human Rights Centre “Memorial” from the scene of “cleansing operation“ conducted by federal forces in the Chechen village of Alleroy in the Kurchalevskiy district on August 15-24. The official explanation for this is allegedly that Aslan Maskhadov is in the village. However, according to those inhabitants of Alleroy who nanaged to get out of the village, Maskhadov is not there and never was.
