Two Ingush shot dead in North Ossetian village of Chermen

By Beybulat Polonkoyev

NORTH OSSETIA, INGUSHETIA - Three local Ingush residents came under sub-machine gun fire last night in the North Ossetian village of Chermen. One was killed on the spot and another died in the hospital.

The incident occurred at around 11pm on October 19. The criminals, who were driving a silver VAZ-21099 sedan, opened fire on a group of young males standing on one of the village streets. The attack caused the deaths of residents Sultygov (born 1984) and Timurziyev (born 1987). A third victim named Dzaurov is in the Ingush republic’s Clinical Hospital.

North Ossetia-Alania’s deputy interior minister Soslan Sikoyev has announced that several different versions of the incident will be considered. An employee at the Ingush prosecutor’s office in his turn said that "not a single crime committed against citizens of Ingush nationality on territory controlled by the North Ossetian authorities has yet been solved."

The village of Chermen is located in the disputed district of Prigorodny, North Ossetia, very close to the border with Ingushetia. Just outside the village there is a notorious checkpoint at a place called Chermensky Krug. Chermen was formerly known as Bazorkino.
