Resident assaulted by men in masks in Ingushetia's Nesterovskaya By Tomas Vrsovsky
INGUSHETIYA - On the evening of October 7, a resident of the village of Nesterovskaya in Ingushetia’s Sunzhensky district was violently assaulted by unknown men in masks. The incident occurred at about 9pm in the yard of the house of 41-year old local resident Musa Kariyev on 26 Zyazikov Street.
Kariyev’s relatives say that when he came out to the yard of his house he found three unidentified masked men sitting under the awning. One of them stabbed him in the head with a knife, badly lacerating his forehead. He fell unconscious, after which he was kicked several times in the body and face.
At present Kariyev is in hospital with concussion. The raiders demanded to know the whereabouts of his eldest son, who had hidden during the raid, and tried to break into the house. They threatened Kariyev’s wife and family members with harsh punishment if they cried out. According to available information, the weapons the attackers carried were a pistol with a silencer, a police truncheon, and a knife.
The Moscow Helsinki Group’s North Caucasus expert on the North Caucasus Aslambek Apayev says that the available evidence regarding the appearance, weapons and behaviour of the attackers suggests a link with the criminals who a month ago shot and killed a family of Roma at the village of Ordzhonikidzevskaya in Sunzhensky district.
In similar cases which occurred in Ingushetia this summer, people were killed. Apayev is convinced that this incident is a warning addressed to him because of his human rights activities. "Kariyev’s brother Khamzat is a colleague of mine, and he’s constantly with me in the hot spots. It was right after my open letter to the international organizations about the very disturbing situation in the North Caucasus, and in Ingushetia in particular, that this incident took place." (D/T)
