Man abducted in Grozny

By Ruslan Isayev

GROZNY, Chechnya - Another abduction took place in the centre of Grozny on Tuesday. A young man who had come out of a shop next to Dom Mody [House of Fashion] was forced to get into a Zhiguli saloon car.

The man tried to resist the kidnappers, who were holding him at gunpoint. He managed to call out to his friend, who came running from the shop, and told him to make a note of the car’s registration number.

The kidnappers behaved calmly, without the fuss that is usual in such cases. They did not drive off in a hurry, but left at a leisurely speed, and this suggested to witnesses of the incident that they were probably representatives of an official law enforcement body.

The name of the kidnapped man is not known, nor are the reasons for his abduction. The Chechen Interior Ministry office has no record of this crime having been committed.
