Situation in Chechnya does not change: attacks, arrests, killings

By Ruslan Isayev

CHECHNYA – Two male corpses with bullet wounds were discovered on Monday in the Leninsky and Zavodskoy districts of Grozny. No identity documents were found on the slain men, who were aged no more than 30.

In the last two days three people have been arrested by the law enforcement agencies in Alkhan-Kala, Grozny and Achkhoy-Martan on suspicion of belonging to units of the Chechen resistance.

Attacks by guerrillas on the representatives of the federal forces are also continuing. A unit of Russian soldiers deployed on the outskirts of the village of Engenoy in the Nozhay-Yurt district came under fire from a firearm. One serviceman was seriously wounded as a result. The attackers hid in a nearby forest tract.

On Monday, at a bus stop in the Staropromyslovsky district of Grozny, guerrillas exploded a landmine as a military convoy was passing. No one suffered as a result of the explosion.
