Seven people dead in bus explosion in GroznyRuslan Isayev, North Caucasus - Seven people were killed instantly, and two others died later in the hospital, when a bus carrying local civilians was
blown up by a mine in Grozny Thursday afternoon.
About 20 people were injured in the explosion, which took place in Sadovaya Street shortly before 6 p.m. The bus was packed with local construction workers returning to Grozny from Russia's main military base in Chechnya, Khankala, when it ran over a remote-controlled land mine. The explosion broke the windows of most
houses within a 100 meter radius.
Eyewitnesses claim there may well have been more casualties than officially announced since many bodies were taken away by their relatives. About 10 to 15 seriously injured workers have been hospitalized. An investigation into the explosion is underway. (T/E) |
