Chechen village Eshelkhatoi came under Russian artillery and mortare fireRuslan Isayev, North Caucasus - Last night the Russian military shelled the Eshelkhatoi village in the Vedeno district. As a result, several houses and the building of the local administration and school have been partly destroyed. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
The artillery and mortar fire hit the very centre of the village and the inhabitants were forced to stay in cellars almost till morning. Later on, the Chechen police arrived and launched investigation.
It is not the first case of Russian shelling of Chechen villages. In the early morning of November 4, the village of Prigorodny near the Chechen capital became the target of Russian mortar fire. Seven houses were hit and an elderly women injured in the incident. Only thanks to the fact that the soldiers used ingots instead of shells there were no casualties.
When people turned to the military, soldiers denied any involvement in the attack. However, many inhabitants of the village witnessed the morning shelling and claim that it came from the location of the federal military. Russian soldiers also tried to thwart the investigation. A commission of investigators and specialists was stopped at the local check-point.
