People leave Komsomolskoye to avoid fightingRuslan Isayev, North Caucasus - The situation in the Urus-Martan district remains unstable. Since September 1 the Komsomolskoye village has been surrounded by Russian servicemen and armoured vehicles. The goal and the reasons for the unexpected concentration of military resources near the village are not clear. The local administration head has not been informed as well.
The inhabitants of Komsomolskoye, who have the experience of March 2000 when fierce fighting between the Russian military and Chechen fighters led by field commander Ruslan Gelayev completely destroyed the village and caused death to civilians, are silently leaving Chechnya. Several families, especially males and young people, have arrived in Ingushetia already.
An elderly woman from Komsomolskoye arrived in the Ingush town of Karabulak with two sons of hers, the first of whom is 21 years old and the second one almost 18 years old. She remembers how in March 2000 Russian soldiers were holding them in the open air on a fenced field. At that time the woman managed to protect their sons against drunk soldiers who wanted to shoot them down. She had to give them all her cash and golden jewels.
