Situation aggravates in Achkhoi-Martan district

Ruslan Isayev, North Caucasus – In the early morning of July 15 a group of some 30 people wearing masks and camouflaged uniforms attacked the district centre of Achkhoi-Martan, southwest of Grozny. As a result, two officials of the local Internal Affairs department, Dishni Mansurov and Suleiman Idrisov, were killed and three people injured.

Besides, one of the injured, Solt-Akhmed Shamayev, said that his brother, wife and young child were severely wounded in the house that came under attack and was set on fire. Having sustained heavy burns, they were transported to a local hospital.

Then the attackers got into their cars and set out in the direction of the neighbouring settlement of Bamut. On the same day, a special operation began in Bamut with Russian secret services and Chechen special police forces (OMON) participating. Many people of the Achkhoi-Martan district tend to consider the incident a provocation by Russian secret services using armed troops of Chechens to destabilize the situation in the district.

In the three recent weeks this is the third case of an armed attack against members of the Chechen police. For example, early last week a group of Russian special forces attacked the house of policeman Alikhan Dudayev, killing his brother and father. A few days earlier in Grozny, when Chechen fighters blasted Russian armoured vehicles, a policeman who came at the place by chance sustained injuries. And shortly before that at the central market place of Grozny unknown gunmen shot dead a member of the Chechen special police (OMON) at point-blank range in the back of his head.
