Corpse of man detained by Russian soldiers discovered in Grozny

Ruslan Isayev, North Caucasus - In the Leninski district of Grozny people have discovered a corpse of a man who had recently arrived in the Chechen capital and subsequently was detained by Russian soldiers.

Since February 27 the Russian military has been carriyng out a large-scale special operation in Grozny. Additional check-points have been created in the town and on access roads and limits have been imposed on transport. Only women and older people who have a residence permit in Grozny are allowed to pass through the check-points.

During the "mopping-up" operation in the Leninski district of Grozny three days ago Russian soldiers detained a young man who could not submit a residence permit. His neighbours said that he had arrived in the town a week ago and started working at the reconstruction of houses destroyed during the war.

When Russian soldiers were detaining the man, they promised to release him after he undergoes a so called filtration procedure. However, a day later local inhabitants discovered a corpse of a dead man in a cellar of a multi-storey building near the place where the man was detained. Eyewitnesses claim that the murderers had repeatedly cut him by a knife and eventually shot into his head to check he was really dead.

The neighbours of the dead man are now trying to find out his identity to hand over the corpse to his relatives. It will not be an easy job as upon the detention Russian soldiers took away his documents. Besides, officials at the military headquarters of the Leninski district refuse the fact that Russian soldiers detained the man.
