Protest meeting in ShaliRuslan Isayev, Northern Caucasus - A protest rally is being held in the county town of Shali. People, mainly citizens of the nearby village of Avtury, east of Shali, spontaneously gathered around the building of the local Russian military headquarters. The protesters demand information on the whereabouts of four local citizens who were seen being detained by Russian soldiers on February 20.
Reportedly, the people were driving home from Shali when Russian soldiers in an armoured carrier ordered them to stop. Without having their passports checked, they were pushed into the military carrier and driven away to the Don-2 special force stationing. Two days later, the car was found blown apart and burnt down at a nearby forest. The Shali county military headquarters denies detaining anyone.
The protesters have been joined by people from neighbouring settlements who also demand information on their recently detained relatives.
