Moscow-backed Chechen police attacked

By Ruslan Isayev

GROZNY, Chechnya – The press office of the Interior Ministry of the Chechen Republic reported a recent attack against two of its members. Their vehicle, a Zhiguli, came under automatic fire on Saturday in the Leninsky district of Grozny by masked men who escaped by driving away on their UAZ vehicle without number plates.

Both men were injured in the attack and taken to Grozny’s No. 9 hospital where doctors said one of them was in serious condition.

Yet another car carrying two policemen also came under attack on the same day in the village of Prigorodnoye. But this time both men died before help could arrive.

The attacker, who managed to escape, was allegedly a member of the Interior Ministry who evidently knew his victims. An investigation is now underway.
