Armed clashes in Achkoi-Martan and Vedeno districts

Ruslan Isayev, North Caucasus – Armed clashes were reported in Chechnya on Wednesday in that fighting took place between a guerrilla unit and Russian special forces around the village of Stary Achkhoi in the Achkhoi-Martan district.

The armed clash, involving the use of large-caliber weapons and grenade launchers, lasted more than an hour and resounded throughout the surrounding villages.

The results of the battle are not entirely known other than the guerrillas escaped, even though immediately after the battle the road leading to the neighbouring village of Orekhovo was sealed in order to block off their escape.

Another battle was also reported to have taken place in the Vedeno district. According to a source in the Chechen Interior Ministry, a group of guerrillas managed to flee from the village of Dargo.
