Chechen guerrillas continue attacks

Ruslan Isayev, North Caucasus - Late on the night of September 23, Chechen guerrillas made 14 onslaughts against the Russian military and Chechen Interior Ministry forces in the villages of the Nozhai-Yurtovsky, Gudermessky and Shalinsky districts.

Battles were especially fierce in the villages of Mayrtup, Alleroi, Tsentoroi, Bachi-Yurt and Avtury in which approximately ten attackers were killed. This was announced by a source from the Interior Ministry of the Chechen Republic who did not, however, reveal the number of casualties among the Russian military and Moscow-backed Chechen forces.

But he did admit that these operations were organized and led by Akhmad Avdorkhanov. For the past two or three years, this field commander has been leading a unit that is one of the most mobile and fittest for action, subordinate only to Chechen resistance leader Aslan Maskhadov.
