Five soldiers killed in various skirmishes in Chechnya

Ruslan Isayev, North Caucasus, July 21 - Five Russian soldiers were killed and ten others wounded yesterday as a result of several gun battles in Chechnya.

A land mine blew up a Russian military convoy in the town of Kurchaloi, killing two soldiers and wounding four others.

Two Russian soldiers were wounded when a land mine exploded early in the morning in the village of Buti in the Shatoyskoi district.

Tuesday night a group of special Russian army forces exchanged fire with several Chechen guerrillas in the village of Ersenoy in the Vedensky district. Three Russian soldiers were killed and four others were injured. No information is available regarding any guerrilla casualties.
