Russian soldiers and police attacked in publicRuslan Isayev, North Caucasus - Attacks on Russian soldiers and policemen are quite common in public places in Chechnya and most often occur in marketplaces and public telephone centers, from which the attackers can easily escape.
On Saturday, unknown assailants killed three Russian policemen in Grozny. As the policemen left a public phone center and got into their car, two young men approached and began shooting at them at close range.
The policemen had no time to retaliate and all three died instantly. The attackers disappeared into nearby alleys.
The three were members of the special OMON police force from the Russian town of Saratov assigned to one of the local police districts.
The day before, two Russian soldiers went shopping in a local market in Achkhoi-Martan. They were killed by shots fired from a car. The attack took place literally 50 meters from a military command post. The unknown assailants escaped with the soldiers’ weapons and documents.
