Wed, 20 Sept Russian government decided to bury 66 sets of remains of unidentified soldiers killed during the 1994-1996 war in Chechnya. Council of Europe Secretary General, Walter Schwimmer, visited Moscow to seek clarifications on the situation in Chechnya. Thu, 21 Sept Officials addressing the State Duma at a hearing on Chechnya heavily criticized the government and military for failing to protect human rights in Chechnya. Chechnya’s recently elected Duma deputy, Aslanbek Aslakhanov, stated that people living in Chechnya are being subjected to "experiments in cruelty, shamelessness and immorality." 19 Russian soldiers were killed, 51 wounded in Chechnya last week (Sept 14 – Sept 20) – Russian Defence Ministry.
