Russia could back antiterrorist operations outside Afghanistan

BRUSSELS. Dec 18 (Interfax) - Russia could back operations to destroy international terrorist structures outside Afghanistan if appropriate confirmations are received, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov has said.

"If some other territories [outside Afghanistan] are at issue and Russia gets strong arguments that prove the existence of international terrorist structures, then why not support operations to destroy them," said the minister in reply to an Interfax question in Brussels on Tuesday.

However, Moscow has not received "any real facts on this score" so far, Ivanov said.

"The region where terrorist structures could really be claimed is Chechnya," he added.
