Chechen envoy to Baku says reports on fighters for Afghanistan "absolute lies"

[Presenter] The press reported on 24 October that well-known [Chechen] field commander Amir Khattab was sending 50 people, whom he chose among Chechen volunteers, to Afghanistan. According to an agreement with the Taleban, these people would head small armed groups in Afghanistan. Initially this group would be sent to Azerbaijan. Representatives of Khozh-Akhmed Nukhayev and Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev would meet this group in Baku. The group would then go to Turkey, where Chechen businessman Guseyn Marayev's representatives would meet them.

In turn, the president of the United Group international association, Guseyn Marayev, told ANS that these reports in the press were aiming to complicate his position in Azerbaijan. He said that he was trying to make his contribution to the economy of the country [Azerbaijan]. He said that he was removed from politics and condemned any violence or terrorism, adding that his life's task was to work for the welfare of the country where he lived. Guseyn Marayev thanked Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev for his humane attitude towards refugees from Chechnya.

[Ali Asayev, captioned as representative of the unrecognized Chechen Republic of Ichkeria in Baku] The report said that 50-member groups - not group but groups - are allegedly being organized at Khattab's request in order to be sent to Afghanistan. I do not know what kind of groups they are. I do not know how 50 people can help a population of many millions fight against the USA. This is an absolute lie. What is more, the reports say that they would be received by Nukhayev here and that he would then send them to Yandarbiyev and Marayev, who has nothing to do with politics or even with the [Chechen] people. He is busy with his own business abroad.
