Pro-Moscow Chechen leader met Al-Qa'idah in MidEast18 October: The Chechen special services have reported that the head of the pro-Moscow Chechen administration, Akhmad Kadyrov, met leaders of the international terrorist organization Al-Qa'idah during his recent Middle East tour [in late September]. The parties reportedly discussed options for mutually beneficial cooperation.
The Chechen special services did not specify what Kadyrov, who represents Moscow's interests, and Al-Qa'idah leaders said at the meeting, but hinted at Moscow's close ties of long standing with Al-Qa'idah.
A representative of the Chechen special services, who required anonymity, did not name the place where the meeting could have been held, saying that this was a professional secret. Commenting on Kadyrov's Middle East trip, the Chechen command said that they had evidence of Kadyrov's meeting with Usamah Bin-Ladin's aide, a certain Abdul Aziz, in Cairo. Abdul Aziz and Kadyrov studied together at the Samarkand religious academy. As if wishing to confirm these reports, Kadyrov recently condemned the US air strikes on international terrorist bases.
