Ex-president Aushev about upcoming presidential elections in IngushetiaRuslan Isayev, North Caucasus – The situation in Ingushetia on the eve of the presidential elections (April 7) resembles the situation in Chechnya in 1991 when the Russian leadership was not wise enough to talk with Jokhar Dudayev, former President of Ingushetia Ruslan Aushev, who resigned his post in late 2001, told a news conference in Nazran on Thursday.
Aushev reiterated his support to one of the hottest presidential candidates, Khamzat Gutseriyev, who has to face „dirty election technologies“. The point is that Gutseriyev is being accused of taking illegal actions against a local journalist who supports Gutseriyev’s chief rival, Murat Zyazikov.
Aushev thinks that only Gutseriyev is able to keep the situation in the republic stable. Programmes of other candidates are mere experiments, Ingush ex-president said.
Among the Chechen refugees, who have been staying in Ingushetia for the third year already, there are some 10,000 people with a temporary registration and an ensuing right to vote in the upcoming elections. Ingushetia has over 300,000 inhabitants, so the votes of eligible Chechen refugees can significantly influence the results of the elections, Aushev said. |
