Four assassination attempts on Alu AlkhanovTimur Aliyev, North Caucasus – Four assassination attempts on Alu Alkhanov, the Chechen presidential candidate supported by the Kremlin, have been carried out during last two months.
According to a source close to the candidate, a bomb was used in each attempt: twice in Chechnya and twice in Moscow (the first time was during the final game of the Russian Football Cup in which Terek Grozny took part); however, each time they were able to disarm the bomb in time."
It is thought that the attempts were made by those with a military background, given the sophistication of the placement of the bombs.
One theory for the reasons behind these attempts is that Alkhanov would not be an advocate of the military forces as president. The more likely theory is that they would prefer to have a President/Governor General and will do anything to stop the upcoming election and declare martial law," the source concluded. (H/E,T)
