They are Alu Alkhanov, Interior Minister of the Chechen Republic; Umar Abuyev, CEO of Chechenneftekhimprom; Magomed Aydamirov, CEO of NEDR; Makhmud-Khasan Asakov of the State Council of the Chechen Republic; Abdula Bugayev, director of educational facility “Sovremennaya gumanitarnaya akademiya”; Vakha Visayev, aide to President of the Chechen Republic; and Movsar Khamidov, head of the Chechen section of the Federal Security Service (FSB).
On Thursday, registration was rejected for four others: Chechen businessman Malik Saydullayev, Grozny resident Yaragi Mamodayev, Dika CEO Zura Magomadova, and lawyer Adam Edilov.
The hot favourite is Interior Minister Alkhanov, who also heads the public council that provides compensation to those who have lost housing due to recent conflicts.
The elimination of Alkhanov’s main rival Malik Saydullayev has boosted his chances and reduced the tension on the part of the Russian leadership, who view Alkhanov as the successor to the late Akhmad Kadyrov.
The presidential election will take place on August 29.
