Investigators have two versions of bomb blast in Grozny stadiumTimur Aliyev, North Caucasus - The men investigating the terrorist act in the Grozny stadium on Sunday, which claimed the life of Chechnya's Moscow-backed leader Akhmad Kadyrov as well as reportedly six others, now have two motives for the explosion. This was related today by Chechen Interior Minister Alu Alkhanov at a news conference in the government's office in the Chechen capital.
Alkhanov refused to disclose the two versions, claiming that it might complicate the investigation. "I can tell them to you, but it would be of little benefit," he said.
He also confirmed to the journalists that the bomb had really been planted in the VIP stand much earlier, probably a year ago.
The Chechen Interior Ministry and other forces operating in the republic continue to be on alert, said Ruslan Atsayev, head of the ministry's press section.
«Passport checks and thorough car searches are being carried out in Grozny, and police patrols throughout Chechnya have been increased," Atsayev said.
Besides, additional 18 checkpoints have been set up around the perimeter of the city, he added.
Some people told our Prague Watchdog correspondent that the current situation in Chechnya reminds them of September 1999, a period just before the second war in Chechnya started.
"Everybody acts as if they expect a storm to erupt. They're all waiting, not knowing exactly what will happen," said Ayshat Akhmayeva, deputy director of the state-run Chechen news agency Grozny-inform.
