Assinovskaya residents protest abductionRuslan Isayev, North Caucasus – On Monday, several dozen women from the Assinovskaya village in the Sunzhensky district of Chechnya staged another protest against the kidnapping of their fellow villagers.
The women spent all day long under the scorching sun at the crossroads Sernovodsk-Assinovskaya on the federal road "Kavkaz", holding anti-war banners and calling for the release of the abductees.
The protest was triggered by the kidnapping of the Ilayev brothers by Moscow-backed Chechen forces two weeks ago.
In late afternoon, an elderly man in a uniform indicating a top military officer approached them, trying to persuade them to hold only sanctioned rallies.
The rally ended at about 5 p.m. The women went home, pledging to continue their protest until the information on the fate of the abductees is made available to them.
