Civilians keep suffering in the Chechen conflictRuslan Isayev, North Caucasus – Civilians keep suffering in Chechnya. There are many cases of beating and detentions of innocent people without a slightest cause. Some of the detained are later found brutally murdered.
On November 27 during a so-called “targeted operation” in Samashki, Russian soldiers detained two young people living on the Stepnaya street. The two youngsters, who were reportedly relatives of Chechen fighters, were released on the following day. Local inhabitants found them outside the village badly beaten and unconscious.
As their relatives were worried the soldiers may return, they requested that the names of the two youngsters should not be disclosed. One of the youngsters who had a lung removed earlier due to illness was found in a critical state and was brought home on stretchers. According to physicians, both youngsters are in a serious state. “At any rate, they were lucky not to be killed. In that case we wouldn’t have found their bodies,” one of the relatives said.
On November 28, in the Staropromyslovski district of Grozny near the Karpinski Kurgan settlement, local residents discovered two male bodies which had been blasted. The relatives of the victims recognized them according to their possessions and clothes. Both men were residents of the Roshni-Chu village in the Urus-Martan district. They had been detained during a mop-up operation by federal troops in the settlement.
Another ghastly discovery was made in the Nadterechny district. On November 30, a shepherd grazing his sheep near the Kalaus village found four human bodies which had been blasted. The bodies were so badly damaged that their identification was extremely difficult. The remains were sent to the building of the Nadterechny district police department. (T) |
