Two Chechens killed, ten others arrested in Ingushetia on Russia's Independence Day

Timur Aliyev & Ruslan Isayev, North Caucasus – The Ingush Ministry of Interior announced that on June 12, the Russian police shot two Chechens living in the Ingush village of Ekazhevo.

According to the official version, unknown assailants began shooting at a vehicle carrying members of the Russian Ministry of Interior who had been sent to Ingusetia as a security measure for the holiday celebration of Russia’s Independence Day. In the ensuing shootout, the police killed two of the assailants, and severely wounded a third, who escaped. And in the attacker’s car they allegedly found several weapons and explosives.

A local eyewitness gave a different account of the incident: the Russian police at first blocked the automobile with its two passengers and tried to arrest them; the men resisted and so were shot.

That same day servicemen of the Russian Ministry of Interior began an inspection of the refugee camp “Tanzila”, not far from Nazran. The reason given for this was that the car containing the alleged arms came from this camp.

According to the refugees, the Russian police used undue force and brutally beat the people, and then arrested ten people: one camp resident and nine unknown persons. None of the ten have yet to be freed.
