Head of Forestry Company killed in Grozny

Timur Aliyev, North Caucasus - Musa Rasayev, head of the Chernorechensky Forestry Company, was killed during the night of June 7.

About five or six armed men wearing masks and camouflage clothing, raided the Rasayev’s home in the village of Chernorechye on the outskirts of Grozny. Musa, along with his wife and three daughters, was at home at the time.

Locals stated that as soon as the intruders entered the house, Musa grabbed his gun and began shooting; he killed three of the men, but in the hail of bullets was seriously wounded and bled to death.

The remaining assailants loaded their dead colleagues onto Rasayev's lorry and disappeared into the night.

The police of the Zavodskoy district of Grozny said that the car and one sub-machine gun were found abandoned in the woods. The identities of the men are now being investigated.

Rasayev’s relatives maintain that the incident may be linked to his being involved in searching for people who disappeared during mopping-up operations in Chechnya.

“Musa had many contacts among federal soldiers at the military command post and in Russia's main military base in Khankala,” claimed his sister Rosa Rasayeva. “People who lost family members would go to him for help and he never turned anyone down. He tried to help in the searches and quite often was successful.”
