Violence and murders in the Urus-Martan districtRuslan Isayev, North Caucasus – The body of 24-year-old resident of Grozny suburbs Shamkhan Dzhabayev, who had been detained by Russian soldiers, has in recent days been found along the Rostov-Baku federal road at the entrance to Grozny.
Mr. Dzhabayev came to the local internal affairs department to receive a new passport when a UAZ military lorry without number plates was passing by. Eyewitnesses claim that the soldiers inside the vehicle did not like the way Dzhabayev looked at them, so they drove him into the car giving no reason for doing so. Neither Chechen policemen, nor local people could save Mr. Dzhabayev from being detained.
Dzhabayev’s relatives began to look for him immediately on the same day. Although they contacted the Urus-Martan military headquarters, Chechnya's Prosecutor's Office, the pro-Moscow government and administration, their efforts were unsuccessful.
Eventually, Dzhabayev’s disfigured body was found near the entrance to Grozny. Pieces of barbed wire rolled around the body show that the perpertators blasted the body, having put an explosive under it.
The day after the finding, the local TV reported that a Chechen fighter died in an explosion when he was planting a landmine near Grozny. So far Dzhabayev’s relatives, though claiming the man had nothing to do with Chechen guerillas, have not dared to call the TV report into question. In addition, they do not believe that those responsible for his killing will be punished.
In recent days Russian soldiers shot dead 29-year-old resident of Urus-Martan Zelimkhan Magomadov during a search in the house of Kharon Tepsayev, Magomadov's neighbour. As Magomadov suffered a serious form of mental disease, he swore at the soldiers, which cost him his life. Afterwards, the soldiers tied his body to their armoured vehicle and dragged it along the street. Local people begged them not to do that but they were beat with gun butts.
On the following day Magomadov’s relatives received the body and soldiers ordered them to bury the body late in the evening in their presence. (M/T) |
