Another mopping-up operation in GroznyRuslan Isayev, North Caucasus – On May 12 the whole Chechen capital Grozny was sealed off as a ”mopping-up” operation was being conducted there, reportedly in the Leninski and Staropromyslovski districts. The special operation ended in the evening.
So far there have been no reports on the number of detained people as their relatives try to pay ransom for their release. Obviously, they do it without unwanted publicity and usually only if soldiers refuse to trade the detained, relatives contact human rights organizations.
Similarly, no reports were available on the eleven people who were detained in Pervy Molsovkhoz, one of Grozny’s periphery settlements, during a ”mopping-up” operation on May 1-2. There are the Almurzayev brothers, aged 25 and 30, and Mr. Gutsiyev, 32, as well as several members of a local police and military headquarters among the detained. One of them, a 54-year-old man, was shot dead after beating and torture. |
