Two teenage victims of torture were buried in ArgunRuslan Isayev, North Caucasus, March 19 - On March 16 a burial of two civilians, aged between 16 and 17, took place in Argun, east of the Chechen capital Grozny. Local people said the victims had been tortured for a long time at the local military headquarters before being thrown away on a roadside with their skulls fractured.
Apparently, the boys were tortured by a blowlamp as the skin on various parts of their bodies has been burnt. The finger-joints on the hands of one of the victims were missing; only skin remained, thus resembling skin of a banana that has been eaten.
The victims’ relatives and neighbours claim that the boys were “guilty” of regularly attending prayers in the local mosque, which evidently triggered the soldiers’ suspicion that they were supporters of “vakhabism”. Argun inhabitants claim that religious persecution is going on in Chechnya.
