Sweep operation in Pervomayskaya; soldiers come under fire in Agishbatoy

By Ruslan Isayev

CHECHNYA – As a result of a special operation carried out on Tuesday in the village of Pervomayskaya in the Groznensky district, two guerrillas have been killed, four local residents suspected of links with units of the Chechen resistance have been detained, and three soldiers have been wounded.

The operation, in which the combined forces of the Chechen battalion “Zapad” and Russian military subdivisions took part, began in the morning and ended in late afternoon. In the course of the operation large-caliber weapons and armoured vehicles were used.

On the outskirts of the village of Agishbatoy in the Vedensky district today, a group of Russian soldiers from the 42nd Motorized Rifle Division came under fire from guerrillas.

As a result four soldiers were wounded. They have all been taken to the military hospital in Khankala. The attackers hid in a forest tract. An immediate search for them was made in hot pursuit, but yielded no results.
