Guerrillas attack Russian soldiers near Eshelkhatoy

By Ruslan Isayev

CHECHNYA – Chechen guerrillas have fired on a group of Russian military personnel in a forest tract to the west of the village of Eshelkhatoy in Vedensky district. As a result one contract soldier was killed and three were wounded.

The attackers, who according to a source in the Interior Ministry of the Chechen Republic belonged to a unit led by Dagestani-born commander Rappani Khalilov, vanished from the scene of the attack.

In Vedensky district a special operation to find those who took part in the attack was immediately begun, involving the mobilization of federal forces as well as the Chechen battalion “Vostok” under the command of the Russian Defence Ministry.
