Four Russian soldiers killed in PetropavlovskayaRuslan Isayev, North Caucasus, July 20 – Four Russian servicemen were killed and one wounded in an attack by Chechen guerrilla fighters in the village of Petropavlovskaya, located about 20 kilometres north of Grozny.
In the morning, four district soldiers were on patrol in the village when unknown assailants began shooting at them. The attackers managed to escape.
In another incident, the same day Sergei Stepashin, chairman of the Russian Audit Chamber, arrived in Grozny, unknown assailants attacked a convoy carrying pension funds for the citizens of the Zavodskoi district.
Having killed two Russian contract soldiers accompanying the vehicle, the attackers stole 5.5 million roubles. The driver and his passenger, a female accountant, were unharmed.
