Battle in the Vedensky district

Ruslan Isayev, North Caucasus, July 19 – The situation in the mountains of Chechnya remains tense, primarily in the Vedensky district where military clashes between various guerrilla groups and the federal military have taken place.

On Monday morning, a group of guerrilla fighters subordinated to Shamil Basayev clashed with a special Russian reconnaisance unit in the Guni village in this district. The press department of the Chechen Interior Ministry reported that during the brief skirmish there were casualties, including four dead soldiers.

The guerrillas managed to escape despite being shelled by artillery and pursued by Russian planes.
