Chechen guerrillas attack local law enforcement agencies

Ruslan Isayev, North Caucasus - Several attacks against members of the local law enforcement agencies have been reported in Chechnya over the weekend.

On the night between Friday and Saturday, a group of unknown people fired at the building of the police station (ROVD) in the Oktyabrsky district of Grozny. As a result, two policemen on duty have suffered light injuries. The shooting came from firearms and grenade launchers and lasted over 30 minutes. Having damaged the building considerably, the attackers managed to escape.

On Saturday morning, a VAZ 2109 car with four policemen from the Grozny rural district came under fire on the outskirts of the Chechen capital. Due to the attack two policemen died on the spot and two in grave condition were transported to the hospital.

Criminal proceedings have been launched against the unknown assailants.
