Chechen fighters are going to avenge recent events in Starye AtagiRuslan Isayev, North Caucasus - A meeting of Chechen commanders of individual fronts and units is going to be held soon to discuss the current situation in Chechnya and work out plans of adequate military attacks on federal troops, according to a statement of the State Defence Committee of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. The statement, signed by Chechen President Aslan Maskhadov, was disseminated on Friday in reaction to the recent tragical events in Starye Atagi.
The document states that the events in Starye Atagi showed to the whole world what order the Russian military implements in Chechnya. "The Russian leadership is familiar with the behaviour of the military in the Chechen territory and covers the military's criminal activities against the civilian population," the statement writes.
A note by Prague Watchdog: On Wednesday people of Starye Atagi held a demonstration in Grozny, putting on display the charred remains of the victims of a Russian mopping-up operation. Representatives of the Russian military said the burnt corpses belonged to Chechen fighters who did not give up, and the pro-Moscow Chechen prosecution launched investigation into the case. |
