Statement on the reports of suicide bombings in Moscow

Chechen Republic of Ichkeria
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Official Statement
05/07/2003

The government of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria has no relation to the reported bombings in Moscow today. We repeat that the government of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria categorically and unconditionally rejects suicide attacks and condemns all acts of terrorism, regardless of who may perpetrate them.

We note however that the roots of the suicide attacks lie in the Kremlin’s genocidal policies in Chechnya and in the international community’s unwillingness to challenge them.

Only a genuine peace can break this circle of violence and provide security to both the Chechen and Russian peoples. We therefore once again offer Moscow to start transparent peace talks with the legitimate Chechen government of the democratically elected President Aslan Maskhadov and ask the international community to convince Moscow to take the offer.
