Zakayev leaves for Moscow to meet Kazantsev

Ruslan Isayev, North Caucasus – Vice-premier of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria Achmed Zakayev this morning left for a meeting in Moscow with Viktor Kazantsev, Russian President’s plenipotentiary in the Southern Federal Region.

On Sunday morning Zakayev took a special flight from the Ataturk airport in Istanbul. Before the departure, Zakayev said that the upcoming meeting is a result of Russian President’s statement of September 24 in which Vladimir Putin called on Chechens to get in touch with Russian representatives to discuss the terms of termination of fighting.

Zakayev also said that Russia had turned down Chechen proposal to involve a third party in the talks. Taking into consideration that the war must be ended and feeling responsibility for the Chechen nation, Chechen leadership decided to launch the dialogue with Moscow without the participation of a third party. However, a representative of Turkey will be present at the talks, said Zakayev, who is accompanied by chairman of the Turkish Liberal-Democratic Party, Besim Tibuk.

The aircraft with the Chechen delegation should land at the Sheremetevo-2 airport at 12:30 of the Moscow time.
