Relatives of Beslan victims rally in Vladikavkaz

Ruslan Isayev, North Caucasus – A rally of the relatives of the victims of the Beslan tragedy that unfolded in the beginning of September took place in Vladikavkaz on Wednesday. More than two hundred inhabitants of Beslan, mostly women dressed in mourning, spent the entire day in the square in front of the government building.

Many of the participants held banners demanding the resignation of the leadership of the republic, headed by President Aleksandr Dzasokhov.

During the second hour of the meeting, President Dzasokhov stepped out to meet the protesters and spent about an hour with them. They blamed him for protecting the interests of the federal government, which, according to the protesters, is not interested in impartial investigations.

The protesters believe that the weapons the fighters used were provided in advance and hidden in the school and that they were abetted in this by local authorities.

Nevertheless, their main demand was to pursue an international inquiry into the causes of the Beslan tragedy. Dzasokhov said that the protesters would soon be met by the representative of the office of the General Prosecutor who is conducting the investigation, and promised that all of their questions would be answered.
