Compensation beneficiaries murdered in GroznyRuslan Isayev, North Caucasus – A Chechen family who had only just received compensation for their damaged house were murdered, along with their neighbor, by robbers in Grozny on April 19.
A few hours after the Israilov family received their long-awaited compensation of 350,000 roubles, a car with several men in it stopped at their house in the Oktyabrsky district of the Chechen capital and the men marched in. They immediately shot 25-year-old Timur and his father Kyuri, and then an elderly family member, Koka, who was in her room.
Before leaving, the killers left 9,000 roubles alongside the bodies of the victims. Their relatives assume the money was meant to cover funeral expenses.
And as the murderers departed, they ran into the Israilov’s neighbor, a policeman, who heard the shooting and came over to see what was happening. They killed him and left his body in the adjoining bushes where it was later discovered.
Crime is a big problem in Chechen society; yet law enforcement agencies seem powerless to control it. However, it was an un-developed system of distributing compensations that cost the Israilov’s their lives.
